 Important Notice Regarding ZPass Distribution and FAQs

Dear Parents,

We are writing to inform you that the ZPasses have arrived, but unfortunately, they are riddled with issues. We understand this may cause concern, and we want to provide clarity to help mitigate any confusion. Below is a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) that we encourage you to read carefully and thoroughly.

 

What is the issue?

Not all ZPasses were provided by the District. Some student ZPasses were printed twice, while others were not printed at all. Please do not panic. Continue reading this notice for steps on what to do if your child does not have a ZPass.

 

Where can students pick up their ZPasses?

If your child was assigned a bus seat (per the notices sent out by the SRBC only), they may pick up their ZPass at the MMS Main Office. To receive their ZPass, your child should present their temporary bus pass. Please keep the temporary pass but return the card cover when collecting the ZPass.


What if my child lost the temporary card?

If your child has lost their temporary bus pass, they must present a SDUSD MMS Student ID to receive the ZPass. Your child should visit the MMS Main Office with their Student ID to collect their ZPass.

 

Now that my child has the ZPass, what do I do with the temporary pass?

KEEP YOUR CHILD'S TEMPORARY PASS IN A SAFE PLACE. Safeguard the temporary pass as it may be needed if your child loses the ZPass. If your child loses the ZPass, email us immediately to inform us.

 

What if the MMS Office does not have a ZPass for my child?

If your child goes to the MMS Main Office and finds that their ZPass is unavailable, DO NOT PANIC. Your child should continue using the temporary bus pass. Please send an email to mmsbus@outlook.com, including your child’s name, student ID number, and bus route. We will notify you when the ZPass becomes available. Until then, please continue using the temporary bus pass.

 

What if my child lost the ZPass?

If your child has lost their ZPass, have them continue to use the temporary bus pass and notify us immediately. Send an email to mmsbus@outlook.com, including your child’s name, student ID number, and bus route. We will notify you when a replacement ZPass becomes available. Until then, please continue using the temporary bus pass.

 

My child lost the ZPass AND lost the temporary pass. What should I do?

It is the student's responsibility to safeguard their bus pass. Please send an email to mmsbus@outlook.com with your child’s name, student ID number, and bus route to determine the next steps.


What if I no longer need bus transportation for my child?

Please notify us by email as soon as possible. We have a long waitlist of families in need of this bus service. Send an email to mmsbus@outlook.com, including your child’s name, student ID number, and bus route. Thank you in advance for helping ensure transportation services are available to those who need them.

 

What if I would like my child to ride the bus, but my child is not listed on the SRBC List?

You must register your child for bus service. Currently, there are no seats available, but your child will be added to the waitlist. If a seat becomes available, you will be notified.

 

What if the question I have is not listed here?

TEMPORARY BUS PASSES

 Hello Everyone, 

We are in the process of passing out TEMPORARY Passes. We started the process yesterday, Wednesday, September 11th.

Of course, not all the students were present and some were new to the list, so we still have some students to whom we need to give passes.

Please Be Patient as we volunteers work diligenly to distribute the temporary passes. If your child has not received the temporary pass, Do Not Panic - Instead, send us an email to mmsbus@outlook.com

We will be distributing passes for several more days. We should be ready to enforce the "must have your pass" rule by Tuesday, 9/17 - so please have your children present their passes at all times.

These temporary passes will be used until the ZPasses become available.

IMPORTANT - TEMPORARY BUS PASSES

Dear Parents,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to inform you about a situation that has come to our attention regarding the D1 and D2 afternoon bus driver. Unfortunately, the driver has not been honoring the student roster, resulting in some registered children being unable to board the bus. Please know that we take this matter very seriously and are committed to resolving it swiftly.

To address the situation and to prevent overcrowding, starting tomorrow, Friday, August 30th, all children, on all routes, will be issued temporary bus passes. Will will begin distribution in the afternoon. These passes will help us monitor and ensure that the transportation process is conducted smoothly and in line with our established guidelines. Make sure your child presents the pass when boarding the bus. (The ZPasses have not arrived - so we will continue to use these temporary passes until the ZPasses are issued.)

Additionally, we will have a member of the SRBC board at the school to oversee the situation and ensure that all bus drivers are following the correct procedures.

We understand that this may cause some concern, and we want to assure you that your child's safety is our top priority. We are working diligently to rectify the situation and prevent any future occurrences. Your understanding and cooperation during this time are greatly appreciated.

 Dear Families,

 

We hope this message finds you well. We understand that the first week of school was challenging, with significant delays in afternoon bus transportation. We also recognize that this caused concern for many of you, and for all of us as well.

 

These delays have been due to a combination of factors, including routing adjustments, the integration of new drivers, and other logistical challenges. The SRBC is actively working with the Transportation Department to address these issues, but given the complexity of the situation and the department's limited resources, progress has been slower than anticipated.

 

Additionally, some families have received outdated and incorrect information from an old automated system. While this has understandably caused confusion, we ask that you please rely on the information provided directly by us, the SRBC, for the most accurate and up-to-date details.

 

As a volunteer committee dedicated to supporting our community, we are committed to assisting in resolving these issues. We understand the frustration these situations have caused and appreciate your continued patience as we work through these challenges. While we expect improvements in the coming weeks, we ask for your understanding as it may take some time.

 IMPORTANT INFORMATION 

Please have your child arrive at the bus stop at least 10-15 minutes before bus departure. This ensures that buses are not delayed. Schedule is listed below. 

Please ensure that your child only rides the above stated bus route. We have had problems with children riding the wrong buses causing overcrowding. This may result in a registered rider not being able to board the bus.  


If your child is assigned to Dingeman 1 or Dingeman 2, you may NOT switch between the two routes. Your child must board and deboard at your child’s assigned designated time.  

 
NOTE: It is your responsibility to ensure that your child knows which assigned bus and to only ride that bus. To ensure the continued safety of all riders, bus privileges will be revoked if your child abuses the system after 2 warnings have been given (i.e. The 3 strikes rule).

Unfortunately, once again, the District has not updated the Scripps Ranch MMS Bus Manifest. As a result, you may have received an email from the District containing incorrect information. Please disregard that email.

Follow the guidance that was emailed to you on July 31, 2024, by us, the MMS Bus Committee.

If you did not receive an email from the MMS Bus Committee, it is because your child was not assigned a seat for the 2024-25 school year. You can confirm this by checking the roster listed below on this webpage.

We are in communication with the district to ensure that the manifest is updated.

Marshall Middle School - Scripps Ranch Bus Program - Zoning Eligibility 

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope this message finds you well. We are writing to clarify the eligibility criteria for the SRBC program, particularly regarding attendance boundaries and transportation policies.

Program Eligibility and Attendance Boundaries

The SRBC program adheres to the attendance boundaries established by the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD). These boundaries are determined based on geographic radius or census data, which means that even some addresses within the 92131-zip code may fall outside the designated attendance area for Marshall Middle School. We understand that this can be confusing, and we are here to provide any clarification you may need.

Grandfathering Policy

It is important to note that grandfathering, which would allow students outside the attendance boundaries to continue in the program, is not permitted. This policy has always been in place, and while there may have been some exceptions made in the past, we are committed to adhering to these guidelines moving forward. This ensures fairness and integrity within our program, prevents overcrowding and misdirection, and helps prevent our program from being in conflict with the District.

Transportation and SDUSD Policies

As the SRBC program utilizes SDUSD buses, we are obligated to follow all related transportation policies. There is no ambiguity in these rules, and compliance is essential for the smooth operation of our program.
